For her first album for Linear Obsessional, the Japanese vocalist and electronics player, and former member of Frank Chickens presents a collection of extraordinary tracks all recorded live. From freaky and extraordinary voice-modulated improvisations to oddly affecting eco-surreal chansons, this is a wonderful introduction to the witty and bizarre world of this singular artist. credits released November 28, 2016  1 to 5: Kamura Obscura solo live from 2013 to 2016  Atsuko Kamura (Vocal,...

Linear Obsessional is delighted to present this beautifully recorded collection of free improvisations by Nada. Nada is the duo of Roger Mills - Trumpet and Hervé Perez - alto sax. The improvisations that make up "Mirror Image" are revelatory, as both musicians explore a huge range of sonic textures through extended technique, and make for a fascinating and engrossing listen as they search out their common ground. "Electrical Tape" is an album of music for the Mellotron, composed and performed by Duncan Goddard of Radio Massacre International. Notes- Outside of folk music, very few instruments carry as much cultural baggage as the Mellotron. In the same way pipes and drums instantly evoke Scotland, an accordion Paris, pan-pipes South America, so the strange tones of the Mellotron instantly bring you to the 1970s and particularly progressive rock and German experimental rock. This connection may...

A while back, Frans de Waard said in a review of my music published in his Vital Weekly that, perhaps he had been "clouded by ill-judgement" in that he had been under the impression that I was just "one of the drone boys". I was a little amused by this because, aside from my association with Drone Forest, I had (up until that time) never actually put out much music under my name that could really be categorized as pure drone music. Drones have been an important touchstone in...

Seeing as Longstone's album "Risaikuru" was built around the theme of recycling and renewal, it seems more logical than usual to produce an album of remixes.  The Linear Obsessional artists asked to contribute have come up with a series of radical remixes of the original material - putting the sources through kaleidoscopic transformations, additions, subtractions and reconfigurations that enhance the power and beauty of "Risaikuru", whilst re-imagining the landscapes evoked...

Split CD from two young experimental artists from Teesside, UK. Plastiglomerate makes dense washes of sound using processed lo-tech analogue equipment - enveloping and engrossing studies in process and decay, using the rejected technology of previous decades.  boringcharlie. makes oddly detached keyboard music reminiscent of classical exercises or even a lounge pianist, as re-imagined by a under-programmed computer.  "Much beauty could be found in the physical world, with all its...

Recorded by a stretch of the A12, built in east London in the 1990s, 'Near Wanstonia' is an atmospheric journey, a distillation of a rich variety of sounds. Almost twenty years ago, large scale protests against the construction of the road were ignored and Wanstonia was one of several 'free states' set up by occupying environmental activists along the proposed route. The album, although at times resonant of sadness felt, is also a resilient, optimistic and an occasionally humorous expression of...

Linear Obsessional is very excited to release an astonishing new album from the improv/electronic group Longstone. risaikuru : a musical interpretation of two photographs taken in Miyagi prefecture, Japan April 2013. 1. ( Onagawa ) soil created from recycled tsunami rubble being used to help reconstruct the town. 2. ( Enoshima ) a tsunami tideline of scattered objects high up on the central hill of a tiny inhabited island . For Longstone's risaikuru project, each member of the group viewed and...

This short (thirteen minute) release is an attempt to deconstruct one of J.G Ballard's 'condensed novels' - "The Atrocity Exhibition", written in 1969. I created lists with specific rules (such as monosyllabic, French punctuation, or proper nouns), and graphic poetry using those lists. Then I read the graphic poems live with an electric bass plugged into an old guitar amplifier, and an acousmatic patch controlled with a laptop. I then divided the recording into ten tracks. -Jerome...

The viola improvisations are inspired by the classical Scottish pibroch bagpipe tradition, with the vocal canntaireachd, accompanying the melody, if you can call it that. In the style of George Benson or Tristan Honsinger, you might say. The recordings are live, either from Smoo Cave near Durness, or in my pre-decorated bedroom, I can't quite remember, but date from February 2012. -Ivor Kallin released 02 March 2012 Viola, Voice - Ivor Kallin Recorded February 2012 Cover Photograph by Rob...

Sam Fendrich (b. 1947, Novosibirsk, Siberia) is a composer who lives in London. Other interesting facts about Sam include that he spent a year as a professional poker player, that he composed 39 songs for "Humphrey The Bear", an Australian Children's TV programme, and that he has a deep interest in mathematical philosophy. When not composing, he teaches higher mathematics. For more about Sam Fendrich read the Baggage Reclaim Questionnaire- bagrec.livejournal.com/248973.html credits...

"Arms" is the long awaited second studio album by the London avant-rock quartet Lost Robots, the follow up to "No" released by Orchestra Pit Recordings. This has a more cohesive feel, as there's less instrument swapping and more definite "band-feel". The usual influences are noticeable - early Can, This Heat, "Hex" period Fall and Italian Gallo soundtracks. Vocals are tackled by Richard Sanderson and Mark Braby and each includes a spoken word piece with...

Linear Obsessional Recordings releases the second album by prosaically named improvising trio Browne/Thompson/Sanderson. Like the first album this was recorded in the sonically vivid surroundings of a Girl Guides's Hut in Aylesbury Browne's home town.  Where the first album was a document of the trio's very first meeting, this album comes after a whole series of gigs played by the trio, and shows how they have learnt to work together and find their own language.  Browne and Sanderson have...

Linear Obsessional is proud to release this compilation of pieces that almost accidently refer to the demise of the once great steel making tradition on Teesside, in theNorth East of England.  "The Black Path" was an exhibition held at the House of Blah Blah in Middlesbrough in January 2016. This CD is a recording of sounds, music and poetry from that exhibition.  The download includes a 24 page PDF booklet of notes, photographs from the exhibition, and an essay by Alistair Nixon....

Dirch Blewn is the project of musician David Bloor. He records and performs the instruments of Peter Blasser. Recorded live with a few overdubs this music is the sound of capacitors charging and dissipating, of gesture with no finesse, of fish guts and physical connection with wires. Flexing wood and the smell of tung oil. It’s about the drum of Tommy Lee added to some drama from Pamela, the heady mix of surfboards and silicon. The remnants of squeezing jelly ass signal into 8 bits and...

Linear Obsessional is very excited to present a new album of electronic music from Kev Hopper (Stump, Ticklish, Prescott) created entirely with self-designed virtual machines. "Tonka Beano" is a delightful exploration of unique sounds, textures and rhythms - a bubbling, effervescent concoction where each track seems to tell a story- sometimes light, sometimes dark, but all within the recognisable sonic spaces that Hopper has made his own. Linear Obsessional is delighted to present a collection of minimalist slow motion "ambient" works by the Californian composer Paul H. Muller. Despite the similarity of approach on all the tracks, this collection demonstrates the variety that Paul achieves, from the almost Wagner like chords of "Water Receding" to the submerging choir of "Bathyscape". This edition comes with 6 PDF files of composer's notes and scores. NOTES BY THE COMPOSER How These Pieces Are...
